Learner FAQs

Preparing for your driving lessons shouldn't be stressful. We've compiled the most common questions from new learners to help you start your journey with absolute clarity and peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is each driving lesson?

Standard lessons are 60 minutes long, but we also offer 90-minute and 2-hour sessions for those who want to progress faster. We find that longer blocks often provide more time for meaningful practice and skill development.

Where do we meet for my lessons?

We provide door-to-door service. Your instructor will pick you up from home, school, or work and drop you off at your preferred location within our coverage area. Please let us know in advance if your pickup or drop-off point changes.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 48 hours' notice for any lesson cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to the full lesson price to cover instructor time.

Do you offer weekend or evening lessons?

Yes, we understand that our learners have busy schedules. We offer a limited number of evening and weekend slots to accommodate school and work commitments. These slots are popular, so we recommend booking in advance.

How do I pay for my lessons?

Payment can be made by cash on the day of your lesson or by bank transfer. Payment must be made on the day of the lesson. If payment is not received, any future lessons may be cancelled until the outstanding balance is paid.

Do I need to pass my Theory Test before I start lessons?

No, you can start lessons before passing your theory test. However, we recommend preparing for it alongside your lessons. Passing your theory early gives you a better understanding of the rules of the road and helps avoid delays when booking your practical test.

How would you recommend preparing for my Theory Test?

We recommend using the Pocket Instructor app alongside the official DVSA Theory Test app to help you prepare. Both provide useful practice questions, hazard perception training and mock tests, helping you build your knowledge and confidence before taking your theory test.

What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

For your first driving lesson, please bring:

  • Your provisional driving licence – for a licence check.

  • Your National Insurance number – required for your driver details.

Please also wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for driving.

What do I need to bring to my driving test?

You must bring your provisional driving license and your theory test pass certificate. We will ensure the car is clean, fully insured, and meets all DVSA requirements for the duration of your examination.

How does instructor support work during the test?

I will provide a 'mock test' environment in our final sessions to prepare you for the examiner's instructions. On the day, I can accompany you in the car if you wish, providing a familiar presence while you demonstrate your safe driving skills.

What happens if I fail my first attempt?

Don't worry—many safe drivers pass on their second attempt. We will review the examiner's feedback together, focus our training on those specific areas, and build your confidence back up for a successful retest.
