Driving Lesson Terms & Conditions Agreement
Please read the following terms and conditions carefully before starting driving lessons. By signing this form, you confirm that you understand and agree to the conditions outlined below.
1. Legal Requirement to Drive
You must inform me immediately if there is any reason why you cannot drive safely or legally. This includes but is not limited to:
-
Loss, suspension, or expiry of your driving licence
-
Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs
-
Taking prescribed medication that may affect your ability to drive
You must ensure that you are medically fit to drive before any lesson begins. If you are unsure, please consult your doctor or the DVLA and inform me of any notifiable medical conditions.
You must also be able to read a vehicle registration plate from a distance of 20.5 metres, which is a legal requirement for driving in the UK.
2. Practical Driving Test
I reserve the right to refuse use of my tuition vehicle for your practical driving test if:
-
The test has been booked without my knowledge, or
-
I believe you are not yet at the required test standard, and it would be unsafe for you to take the test independently.
If this situation arises, I will inform you well in advance so we can discuss the options available to you.
Please note that as of 1 April 2025, the DVSA practical test cancellation period is 10 working days (previously 3 days).
3. Lesson Frequency
I expect pupils to take a minimum of 1 hour of tuition per week where possible.
Depending on where you live and the topic being covered, some lessons may require additional time (for example when travelling to a teaching or test route area). If a longer lesson is recommended, I will discuss this with you during the debrief at the end of the previous lesson.
4. Responsibility for Driving Offences
Any fines, penalties, or penalty points incurred while you are driving during a lesson will be your responsibility.
It is a legal requirement to identify the correct driver at the time of an offence, even when a driving instructor is present in the vehicle.
5. Payment
Payment for lessons and/or driving tests must be made on the day of the lesson/test via bank transfer to the account details that will be provided to you in advance.
6. Lesson Cancellations (Student)
If you cancel a lesson with less than 48 hours’ notice, you will be liable for the full lesson fee.
However, if I am able to fill your cancelled slot with another pupil, you will not be charged.
Please note this is not always possible, particularly if cancellations are made late at night or early in the morning.
7. Non-Attendance / Late Arrival
When I arrive for your lesson, I will send you a text message to confirm arrival.
-
If there is no response within 15 minutes, the lesson will be cancelled and charged in full.
-
If you arrive late but within 15 minutes, the lost time will be deducted from your lesson, as I must remain on schedule for my following lessons.
8. Instructor Delays
If I am delayed due to traffic, roadworks, or other unavoidable circumstances, I will inform you of my updated estimated arrival time (ETA) and you will still receive your full lesson time.
9. Instructor Cancellations
If I need to cancel a lesson due to circumstances outside of my control, such as:
-
Mechanical breakdown of the tuition vehicle
-
Unsafe weather conditions
-
Heavy traffic preventing safe or effective instruction
-
A previous lesson or test running over for unavoidable reasons
I will rearrange the lesson for the next mutually convenient date and time.
Terms & Conditions Agreement
At your first driving lesson, you will be provided with a physical copy of our Terms & Conditions. Both the pupil and instructor will be required to sign this document to confirm that they have read, understood and agreed to the Terms & Conditions.
By signing the Terms & Conditions, both parties confirm their agreement to abide by them throughout the duration of the driving lessons.
